Once mastered, Windy’s unique presentation of weather forecast data allows pilots to visually understand the weather forecast in a way other resources don’t. The ability to see and compare data from several forecast models across dozens of layers useful for aviation makes for a powerful tool. On top of that the ability to customize the interface speeds up forecast study.
-
Even though Eric is a FAA Certified Advanced Ground Instructor, this is not a flight training course and does not count towards any certificate requirements. This is a course explaining windy.com’s powerful weather tools from a pilot’s perspective. It is meant to show pilots how to maximize the capabilities of the website specifically for aviation. Always obtain official weather briefings before flight and consult with YOUR CFI about any meteorologic or flight planning questions.

No! Windy is another tool in the arsenal to gather “all available information” about a flight. It’s important to understand that the data windy presents is computer modeled forecast data and not a forecast by a meteorologist. It’s extremely important to always get an official weather briefing before flight. Windy is a great supplement to the standard briefing and is extremely useful for longer range outlooks where strategic trip planning is involved.

I love the Meteogram view for its usefulness. But it’s important to truly understand what is represented and thats part of what this course aims to cover.
